23 Sep Pastor Danny Resigns after Seven Years

My family and I arrived in Clinton just a few months before the COVID pandemic. As a result, we didn’t have much time for a “honeymoon” as far as being welcomed and adjusting to a new church and area. You all were challenged to trust a new pastor a little bit more quickly than you might have, due to the extreme challenges of the situation.

As we adjusted to a new normal, I assured us that we could be “together, even when we are apart.” The familiar and often taken for granted opportunities of gathering in person would be disrupted for the foreseeable future. But, I would do my best, with the help of the staff, to keep us connected as a church family.

Now, the reality of being apart from you all is sinking in. I’ve learned a lot about life, ministry, and people during my seven years as your Pastor. I leave here knowing I’ve done my best to preach the gospel, love you all, and lead under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. I’ve tried to represent this church well in this town and beyond East Tennessee.

Clinton is a special place and I’m grateful to have had a place and part of this church’s history. Cally, Lucy, and Matt’s personal lives have been shaped by our move to this place. Matt and Lucy are Clinton High grads and as such “Dragons for Life.” I’m grateful for your ongoing interest and prayers for them.

I want to thank the church staff for their friendship and support. I will miss working with and seeing them, but am very grateful for the privilege of sharing life with and serving the Lord with them.

I’m also grateful to those who planned, prepared, and made possible the reception for Lori and me. For all those in and outside of the church who came to see us, along with your cards and well wishes, thank you.

A number of you have asked what is next for me. The Lord has been faithful to lead my family and me into and out of a variety of places, peoples, and situations. I have no reason not to trust God now.

Finally, “May the Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace” (Numbers 6.24-26)–DC
