22 Apr May is about Making Memories
Alex Trebek died at age 80 due to pancreatic cancer. He is best known for hosting the daytime Emmy award winning show “Jeopardy!” It ran for 37 seasons for a total of 8200 episodes; Alex holds the Guiness World Record for hosting the most episodes of a single game show.
In his memoir, “And the Answer Is. . . Reflections on my Life” are these words: “Stop worrying about the future and just treat every day as a blessing. Try to be aware that when you leave this earth, you made a difference in the lives of other people.”
He and his wife Jeannie were married for 30 years, and when asked about his legacy, said this: “I’d like to remembered first of all as a good and loving husband and a decent man who did his best to help people perform their best. I’ll be perfectly content if this is how my story ends—sitting on the swing with the woman I love and having my wonderful children nearby.”
This is the month for graduations and celebrating accomplishments. The old adage is true: “The days are fast but the years are short!” Many people will wonder about the passage of time and how quickly these graduates have grown up (too fast!) It’s an emotional and exciting time for graduates, parents, and families. I’m grateful for all our students and look forward to what the Lord has in store for each and every one.
The month of May offers many special Sunday emphases. Here is a glimpse of what is ahead over the next several weeks:
3rd: Graduate Recognition
10th: Mother’s Day
17th: Deacon Ordination (5pm)
24th: Memorial Day Remembrances
31st: Combined 830am service
I’m starting a new Wednesday night Bible study this month on Traditional Baptists and Calvinism. I’m using a book that two of my theology professors wrote years ago; you can purchase those from the church office, if interested.
As always, thanks for your faithfulness in attendance, giving, and prayers. Let’s keep on keeping on “serving the Lord with gladness.”–DC
