Youth Ignite kicks off August 20 with Sterl the Pearl

School is in session! The syllabus week has come and gone, teachers are already counting down the days until May, and sports are picking up! Students have gone from seeing each other once a week (if that) to seeing each other everyday Monday-Friday.

We have to be mindful of each student as they are having to adjust to a new schedule that they have not been used to in several months. Being the youth minister, I know several of my students enjoyed staying up to 3 or 4 AM each night, sleeping until 1 PM, and repeat this process daily.

Be in prayer for those students and that they will adjust accordingly and pray for teachers as it is such a a trying position and they have students that come in their classroom that it could be the only time that they receive love and compassion.

Now, for the ministry side of things. FBC Kids starts up on 8-13 with bounce houses, face painting, pizza, and fellowship. Youth Ignite starts up on 8-20 with special guest Sterl the Pearl! If you are not familiar with Sterl, his actual name is Sterling Henton, he is a former QB for the University of Tennessee and current DJ for all things UT related!

This isn’t just for First Baptist Church students, but for all youth within the community. I have been in contact with several churches in the area, sports teams, clubs, etc. trying to have as many students present for this event to hear Sterl’s testimony and how he got to where he is today.

There will be plenty of pizza, thanks to Pizza Express and their continued partnership with making sure that all of our students are fed-especially for this event when we are ordering 50 pizzas!! We will also have tons of door prizes for the students, so once the students enter, they will receive a ticket and there will be a drawing at the end.

Prizes that are available are the following, but there are more: Hippie Bowl gift card, Git N’ Go Gift Card, Smokies Tickets, Burr-Ville Milkshake, Hamock’s gift card and T-shirt, and so much more awesome things! Be in prayer for Sterl and all of the students that will be present for this so that they might be able to take away something from this event in which they can use to better them as fellow believers in Christ. Pray for all the volunteers that have a role in this.

I want to include a thank you to all the local businesses for your generous donations. It will not go unnoticed and the students will definitely be grateful to receive their prize!–Kris
